The OKC Innovation District is located in Northeast Oklahoma City, one of the City’s most historic areas. The District is committed to the Northeast OKC community and works alongside its partners to help promote STEM education, businesses and programs in NEOKC.
Northeast OKC is also home to some of the city’s most notable organizations, and it is a thriving area for minority start-up businesses.
In 2021, the Innovation District launch the Stem Education and Workforce Development (SEWD) Committee. This committee oversees the allocation of $18 million over the next 25 years to fund STEM education and workforce development programs in Northeast Oklahoma City, while enabling students and community members to have the resources necessary to participate in OKCID growth opportunities.
The Innovation District’s STEM Awareness Campaign worked with community members and organizations to provide STEM programming, education and resources to students and schools in Northeast Oklahoma City.
STEM games is a partnership between the Innovation District and Restore OKC beginning in Fall 2022 where volunteers will come into NE OKC elementary schools to play STEM related games with the students.
This program gives students an interactive STEM experience to spark an interest in STEM concepts, while also leveraging the Innovation District’s network to create a pool of volunteers to support classrooms in NE OKC.
The OKC Innovation District is building a ‘first-of-its-kind’ internship program in NE Oklahoma City. The comprehensive internship program will provide opportunities for high school and undergraduate students from the NE OKC community to access career experiences in the Innovation District.
Alongside work experience, students will also have an opportunity to network with other interns and industry professionals, engage in professional development and obtain certificates to enhance their resume.
