Back to OKC School Events and Opportunities for Parents, Teachers, and Students  

As summer winds down and the school year approaches, Oklahoma City is bustling with exciting events and opportunities designed to support parents, teachers, and students.

Here's a roundup of notable happenings to ensure a successful and engaging start to the academic year. 

State of the Schools Event 

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is hosting its annual State of the Schools event at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Dr. Jamie Polk, the newly appointed Superintendent of OKCPS, will share her strategic vision for boosting student success and fostering community involvement.

Joseph Harroz Jr., President of the University of Oklahoma, will highlight the ambitious "Lead On University" Strategic Plan, under which OU has seen record-breaking freshman classes, impressive research growth, and expanded programs to meet Oklahoma’s workforce needs. 

Moore Public Schools Update 

Located at Westmoore College and Career Center hear updates from Moore Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Romines. Find out the latest developments in the MPS district, where over 60% of the students are residents of South Oklahoma City. Learn about the future of our community's schools and how it impacts us all. This event, sponsored by Mercy, is free to attend and will take place on September 17, 2024, from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. 

Drive Back to School 

Service Oklahoma is extending hours every Saturday through the rest of the summer at some of the busiest locations to better serve Oklahoma’s teen drivers and their parents. Customers can visit from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for written and driving tests on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Urban Mission

Urban Mission will be serving families on August 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Families will need an ID for each child and will receive premade bags of supplies. 

Back-to-School Bashes and Block Parties

Several organizations are hosting Back-to-School Bashes with various activities and giveaways: 

  1. Dream Center OKC

August 3, 11:00 AM: Back-to-School Bash at 2212 SW 55th St. OKC, OK. The event includes inflatables, food, games, and school supplies. 

2. YMCA Back-to-School Bash 

August 8, 6:30 - 8:30 PM: the Northwest District YMCAs will host their 3rd Annual Back-to-School Bash at Rockwell Plaza YMCA. This event will include free food, haircuts for kids, inflatables, and backpacks filled with school supplies. 

3. Bethlehem Start Baptist Church

August 3, 9 AM- 12 PM: at 22704 NE 24th, OKC, OK. This event includes a complimentary breakfast and a giveaway of backpacks with school supplies.

4. Southern Oaks UPC

August 10, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Southern Oaks UPC's Back-to-School Bash with free food, bounce houses, and backpacks with school supplies. 

5. Anglin's Barbershop

August 11th, 2:00 - 6:00 PM: Free haircuts for students, delicious food, snow cones, outdoor games, and community outreach activities. 

6. Back to School Bash & Backpack Giveaway: Bounce House, Food trucks

August 12, 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM: Back-to-School Bash & Backpack Giveaway at Hair Therapy Salon, 225 NE 38th Terr Ste C, Oklahoma City. This event includes free haircuts, hairstyles, food trucks, and games. 

7. Delmar Bites

August 18, from 12:00 to 5:00 PM: at 1225 SW 2nd St. OKC. The event includes food trucks, live music, a 360 photo booth, local vendors, games, and a raffle.
