Oklahoma City Innovation District Hosts 3rd Annual Innovation Week to Inspire Future STEM Leaders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oklahoma City, OK – [8/5/2024] – The Oklahoma City Innovation District (OKCID) is set to host the 3rd Annual Innovation Week from September 30th to October 4th at the Science Museum Oklahoma. Aimed at bridging the gap between young students and the world of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), the event will engage over 1,000 7th grade students with hands-on activities and demonstrations from around 30 companies, including aerospace engineers and medical researchers.

Innovation Week kicks off on Monday with a Teacher's Night, allowing educators to interact with various booths and explore innovative teaching methods to ignite their students' enthusiasm for STEM fields. The event promises to be an immersive experience, showcasing the contributions of local companies like Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), Thermo Fisher Scientific, Sartorius, BioTC and many more.

Throughout the week, students will participate in demonstrations led by professionals working with cutting-edge technologies. These hands-on learning experiences aim to show students from diverse backgrounds the types of STEAM careers that are possible, right here in Oklahoma. Last year, more than 70% of participants came from low-income or minority homes. This year, OKCID is once again extending opportunities to a broad range of young people, increasing the capacity from 900 to 1,200.

Innovation Week is sponsored by the Inasmuch Foundation and Boeing. If you would like to volunteer at Innovation Week, please sign up here.
